Brenton Thwaites Crowned Prince In Disney’s Maleficent

The world of television and movies is captivated at the moment with a return to fairy tales and I personally couldn't be happier. With the emergence and success of Once Upon A Time and Grimm on television and Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman in theaters, it makes perfect sense that Disney, the entertainment home of fairy tales, is currently working on Maleficent, the tale of Sleeping Beauty told from the perspective of "the princess' evil nemesis, Maleficent."

The world of television and movies is captivated at the moment with a return to fairy tales and I personally couldn’t be happier. With the emergence and success of Once Upon A Time and Grimm on television and Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman in theaters, it makes perfect sense that Disney, the entertainment home of fairy tales, is currently working on Maleficent, the tale of Sleeping Beauty told from the perspective of “the princess’ evil nemesis Maleficent.”

The film has already attracted Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple and now rising actor Brenton Thwaites has signed on to play the role of the prince, as Fanning takes on his dreamy princess counterpart Sleeping Beauty and Jolie takes on the titular role of the evil sorceress.

While Thwaites may be unknown to Hollywood, in his native Australia he is essentially a teen version of Brad Pitt and is causing quite a bit of swooning commotion with his acting career. The young actor is famous for his roles in Home And Away and the teen show SLiDE. He’s also set to star in Lifetime’s upcoming Blue Lagoon remake.

In truth, I hope that Thwaites will be be bringing to the table more than a multitude of fan girls. Otherwise, Disney is in for a flop and it looks as if they’re betting big on this one.

Sadly, this Robert Stromberg directed film doesn’t start shooting until later this year and isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until March 14, 2014. So we won’t be seeing Thwaites make his Hollywood debut anytime soon.
