Bret McKenzie Confirms A Flight Of The Conchords Movie

The wildly funny HBO series, Flight of the Conchords, will be adapted into a film according to one of the show's stars, Bret McKenzie. McKenzie, along with Jemaine Clement, formed their band (also named Flight of the Conchords) in 1998. Instead of playing regular music, the two focused on comedy (think Demetri Martin) and gained a cult following, which led to HBO creating a series for them in 2007. The show ended after two seasons, but the band's popularity remains.

McKenzie joked with The Hollywood Reporter about the film.

“I’m gonna go back to New Zealand tomorrow, maybe film it next week. And then edit it the week after. I don’t know how familiar you are with movies, but there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that could take one or two weeks. Probably in about a month we’ll have a premiere.”

If only he weren’t kidding, because I’m sure this movie will spend a few years in development hell before we get to see Bret and Jemaine’s classically awkward, musical comedy hit the big screen.

I’m a huge Flight of the Conchords fan, so this is definitely exciting news for me, but what about you? Did you watch Flight of the Conchords? Are you excited for the movie? Let us know in the comments.
