Brie Larson Claims That Captain Marvel Can Lift Thor’s Hammer

A few weeks ago, Captain Marvel lead Brie Larson tagged Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame in a workout video which saw the actress display prowess in wielding a 16-pound sledgehammer. But if that post didn’t make it clear enough that Larson thinks she could give the God of Thunder a run for his money, the star has now gone as far as to boast that Carol Danvers is capable of lifting Mjolnir itself.

The Academy Award-winner has been in Brazil lately to attend this year’s CCXP, where Larson hyped up Captain Marvel’s impending arrival in the MCU. What’s more, the actress found time on her visit to speak to Buzzfeed Brasil, and after recalling the journey she’s taken so far as the MCU’s most powerful hero, Larson was asked if she thinks Carol is worthy of lifting Thor’s hammer, to which she responded by nodding her head and replying “definitely.”

The nature of Mjolnir has always being a point of debate, primarily around the question of what exactly it even means to be ‘worthy’ of lifting it. So far, the only non-Asgardian who’s succeeded in wielding the weapon is Vision, though Steve Rogers managed to at least get it to budge in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and some fans argue to this day that Steve was just pretending to struggle in order to spare Thor’s feelings.

Unfortunately, with the hammer destroyed in the events of Thor: Ragnarok, it’s unlikely that Carol will ever have the opportunity to put Larson’s words to the test. All the same, you can expect Carol to hold her own with the God of Thunder when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019, but not before Captain Marvel comes out on March 8th.
