Four years ago, Disney and Pixar rounded off the Toy Story trilogy in style and gave our beloved band of animated heroes the conclusion they throughly deserved. Given the popularity of the characters, though, it was almost inevitable that the company would be tempted to revisit Woody and Co. for another action-packed adventure further down the line.
Thankfully, that retread produced the acclaimed Halloween-themed TV special, Toy Story of Terror — as opposed to merely cashing in with a wholly unnecessary Toy Story 4. And so, building on the success of last year’s spinoff, the gang is set for another short film in the form of Toy Story That Time Forgot.
Poised to debut on AMC this holiday season, Buzz and Woody’s latest outing sees the pair stumble across a clan of delusional dino-toys led by the wonderfully named Reptillus Maximus. You see, much like the case that afflicted Tim Allen’s budding astronaut, the dinosaurs genuinely believe that they are real, which leads to all kinds of trouble.
Toy Story That Time Forgot has recruited the likes of Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, Don Rickles, Joan Cusack and Kevin McKidd — who plays the aforementioned Maximus — for the animated special. Here’s a brief description of the plot courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
During a post-Christmas play date, the “Toy Story” gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room in this “Toy Story That Time Forgot.”
Toy Story That Time Forgot will roar onto screens in North America on December 2nd and, while it is yet to be confirmed, it’s expected that other territories will receive the TV special around the same window.
