One glance at Marvel’s jam-packed slate will tell you that there are two spinoff movies separating Infinity War and the so-far untitled Avengers 4: Ant-Man and the Wasp which just wrapped production in Atlanta, and Captain Marvel, the long-anticipated standalone pic that is expected to begin shooting early next year…also in Atlanta.
Largely set in the 1990s, the Brie Larson-fronted Captain Marvel movie is coming to us by way of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who are due to get the cameras rolling in March of 2018 – almost one year ahead of the film’s planned release. But a new report unearthed by MCU Exchange asserts that Marvel has earmarked a week-long filming session in January, and is expected to fill out many of Captain Marvel‘s key roles before the year’s end.
Indeed, one source close to MCU Exchange goes so far as to suggest that Boden and Fleck’s spinoff will feature a handful of characters from the Avengers 4 roster, as the production slot coincides with the accelerated timeline mapped out by Joe and Anthony Russo – remember, the filmmaking duo ostensibly shot Infinity War and the fourth Avengers movie back-to-back.
Assuming this is indeed the case, and Captain Marvel won’t begin production in earnest until early March, there’s every chance that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will cross over into the female-fronted solo pic. It’ll no doubt lead to a headache or three, as Boden and Fleck’s offshoot takes place in the ’90s, but after leaked set pics for Avengers 4 revealed a flashback to the original movie, there’s no telling what Marvel has up its proverbial sleeve for 2019.
Captain Marvel will see a release on March 8th, 2019, and though rumors of an Infinity War cameo have cooled, it’s all but certain that Brie Larson’s superpowered heroine will enter the fray in time for Avengers 4. Which is just as well, given Thanos’ plans for world domination.
