It might not seem like it, but it's true.

Marvel Studios has retooled its entire release schedule for the remainder of the Multiverse Saga, which includes some happy updates — like Deadpool 3 jumping forward from November to May 2024 — but in most cases confirms that a range of upcoming MCU films will be delayed. In the case of, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, by a full year apiece. As for Captain America: Brave New World, it’s been held up from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024.

Three-months delays are not usually something for Marvel fans to celebrate, but here it’s actually a blessing in disguise. For starters, Captain America 4‘s prior May slot has been filled by Deadpool 3, so we’ve still got superhero goodness to look forward to that month. Moreover, without any offense intended to Thunderbolts, the film previously holding that honor, Cap 4 thoroughly deserves its place as the MCU’s summer blockbuster of 2024.

Although Captain America: Civil War premiered in May 2016, and The Winter Soldier released in April 2014, Captain America: The First Avenger was likewise a July release back in 2011. That Phase One favorite was of course the film that introduced Chris Evans as Steve Rogers to the world. Seeing as Brave New World will similarly serve as the first cinematic outing for Sam Wilson’s Sentinel of Liberty, it’s only right that Anthony Mackie’s take on the hero deserves the same treatment as his predecessor.

Captain America 4 was always the tentpole Marvel Studios release of 2024, anyway, given that Thunderbolts is more of a anti-hero-centric spinoff and Deadpool 3 — while hugely anticipated — is the red-headed stepchild of the MCU. With Harrison Ford boarding the franchise as Not Red Hulk, whispers of some Avengers set-up, and a new leading hero at its center, Brave New World is right at the heart of the future of the Multiverse Saga, just where it belongs.
