Captain America: New World Order is currently before the cameras, and unlike many other ongoing Marvel Studios productions, doesn’t seem to be heavily affected by the ongoing writers’ strike. The primary shoot is expected to wrap a month from now so there’s still a lot to do, though all indications are that it’s coming together nicely.
The movie will pick up where Disney Plus show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off, with Danny Ramirez’ JoaquÃn Torres being handed the mantle of the Falcon now that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has a full-time job wielding the shield. As in the streaming series, the pair will be working as a team both in and out of costume, as indicated by these set pics of the pair in civilian mode.
New World Order looks set to be Marvel Studios’ centerpiece production next year, but right now it seems to be unexpectedly turning into a semi-sequel to 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Liv Tyler is back as Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson is finally returning to play the Leader. That – coupled with Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross being thrown into the mix – makes us wonder whether they’re keeping an appearance from Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk under wraps.
Rumors have been swirling for years about a potential World War Hulk adaptation from Marvel Studios, so perhaps New World Order could be the stealth setup for the comeback of the smash-happy Savage Hulk. Either way, we’re just hoping Mackie’s new Cap doesn’t get lost in the mix, as he still has a lot of work to do before he can live up to Steve Rogers’ world-saving antics.
Captain America: New World Order will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
