The newest television spot for Marvel’s soon to be released Captain America: The Winter Soldier promises that the sequel will feature Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D. coming under some heavy fire. While the plot of the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t necessarily a state secret since the specific storyline from the comic books it is based on has been around for a while now, some aspects of the movie have been hinted at more so than others in various teasers and trailers.

Aside from some really, really cool looking action sequences, the newest TV spot makes it clear that S.H.I.E.L.D. and the film’s titular hero are going to be taking heat from bad guys with guns and politicians with agendas, as we see a hearing revolving around S.H.I.E.L.D.’s increasingly, shall we say, “loose” interpretation of the limits of their power. It also shows the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier getting blown out of the sky by a bunch of menacing looking fellows with rockets, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) swooping in, Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) zapping a guy in the neck, and Captain America (Chris Evans) being his most Captain America-y yet.

All of this is great news for fans of the legendary comic book character, as it seems that Marvel and directors Anthony and Joe Russo are determined to ground their Captain America franchise in stunning action sequences and actual, motivating character development (which has been Marvel’s trademark since they came charging out of the box with Iron Man way back in 2008).

Captain America: The Winter Soldier keeps looking better and better the more we see of it. Take a look at the new trailer below and let us know where you think this is all headed in the comments!
