Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers Reports For Duty In New Captain Marvel Set Pics

There's a blast of '90s nostalgia residing in the latest set photos for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's in-development Captain Marvel movie.

There’s never been an MCU hero quite like Carol Danvers – she’s Captain Marvel, for crying out loud!

Imbued with superhuman strength, speed and flight following a near-death accident, Brie Larson’s former Air Force pilot promises to bring something truly unique to the Avengers lineup – think old-school Captain America mixed with “sassy, smartass” humor – when she joins the ensemble cast of Avengers 4 early next year.

As a matter of fact, contrary to popular belief, it appears those pictures of Carol Danvers were captured on the set of Avengers 4, not Captain Marvel, which only just entered production in Los Angeles earlier this week. Flanked by an all-star cast (Gregg! Jackson! Mendelsohn!), Brie Larson now faces the tricky task of shouldering her own standalone superhero movie. But at least based on leaked set photos – not to mention Larson’s award-winning credentials – the actress ought to have no problem winning over the naysayers.

Much like Wednesday’s status report, these photos appear to show the pre-Captain Marvel Carol enjoying some downtime from her active role in the Air Force – the decidedly ’90s attire even includes a nod to the aviation body. And that’s it, really. Word is amateur photographers have spotted a nearby helicopter flying overhead, so perhaps directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are planning to capture some aerial shots of Carol’s origin story.

Behind the lens, that story’s been bent into shape by a pool of incredibly talented writers. Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) were the first to have a pass at Captain Marvel‘s script, before the so-hot-right-now Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider), Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch polished things up. We understand Boden and Fleck also fine-tuned the final product, which will be projected onto screens near and far from March 8th, 2019.
