It was a letdown to hear once again from Marvel head Kevin Feige that Black Widow STILL isn’t getting her own movie. However, there was another announcement that considerably softened the blow; Captain Marvel will be heading up her own movie in 2018.

The Captain Marvel ‘role’ originated back in the 1960s, and has been adopted by a stream of different characters. Thankfully, that element was not left in the dark by Feige, who told attendees quite simply, “This is Carol Danvers.”

For those unfamiliar, Danvers had served as Ms. Marvel for some time before taking on the duty of Captain Marvel in 2012, and is a firm fan favourite.

“This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy,” he went on to say, “One of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

The issue of who’ll be playing the much-loved character was not touched upon, but as with all things Marvel, expect to see a lot of speculation stirring before an official announcement is made.

Captain Marvel will be released on July 6th 2018. Check out the press release from Marvel below for more info:

Carol Danvers has set a flight path straight into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

The super heroine will make her debut in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” on July 6, 2018, headlining the first female-led film from Marvel Studios. President Kevin Feige made the announcement at a special event revealing the full lineup of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers,” said Feige. “This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

While we can’t say much more than that just yet, stay tuned to Marvel.com for the latest on “Captain Marvel” and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it develops!
