Higher. Further. Faster.
It’s yet to be determined whether Captain Marvel is able to travel faster and further than her MCU counterparts – chances are she will, given the fact that her abilities are simply off the charts – but based on Marvel’s trailer analytics, Carol Danvers is very much capable of going higher. Much higher.
Case in point: the studio has today announced that, at 109 million, Captain Marvel‘s blistering first teaser trailer amassed more views than both Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther – two billion-dollar hits to come out of Marvel Studios in the past three years.
Only Thor: Ragnarok (136 million) and the two trailers for Avengers: Infinity War (230 million and 179 million) scored higher across the same time period, but take nothing away from Captain Marvel‘s achievement – Tuesday’s trailer reveal simply placed Carol Danvers in the company of greatness, where she’ll remain for a very, very long time.

The metrics posted by Marvel Entertainment’s official Twitter feed are a neat and handy way of gauging interest, even if it’s impossible to formulate any box office predictions from 109 million global views. We already know that Kevin Feige and Co. are crossing their fingers (and toes!) in the hope of a Wonder Woman-sized mega-hit, though it remains to be seen whether Carol Danvers has the same pulling power as the inimitable Diana Prince.
But whereas Gal Gadot’s Immortal Warrior is firmly focused on WW84, Brie Larson’s costumed crusader will follow Captain Marvel with the so-far untitled Avengers 4, a Marvel event movie that far exceeds its predecessor in terms of stakes and scope. May 3rd, 2019 is the date for your diaries – precisely nine weeks after the launch of Captain Marvel and her 90s-set adventure.
