Despite the tremendous amount of love fans have for Nick Fury, and the actor who plays him (Samuel L. Jackson), the character hasn’t been featured too heavily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of late. Though he was instrumental in putting the Avengers together, his role has been diminished quite a bit and he hasn’t been seen on screen since Age of Ultron. It looks like things will stay that way, too, as the actor isn’t signed on for any future Marvel movies just yet. Or is he?
It was only a few weeks ago when Jackson revealed that he wasn’t involved in Avengers: Infinity War or its sequel, the currently untitled Avengers 4. However, a new casting call for the latter film would seem to point to an appearance by the fan favorite, despite him denying that he holds a role in the pic. We can’t say for certain if Fury will show up at this early stage, but based on what we have here, it does appear that he will.
Currently shooting in Atlanta, Avengers 4 is now looking for a male photo double who’s “African-American and is age 30s to 50s, from 6’2” to 6’4” and has a chest size of 38 to 40.” Furthermore, they’ll “need to be bald and must have a goatee or have facial hair that they’re willing to cut into a goatee to match the actor.” That sure sounds like Nick Fury to us, though the age range isn’t quite the same, as Sammy J is currently 68.
Still, our gut tells us that the actor will make an appearance in the film, even if he doesn’t have a huge role. Yes, it goes against what Jackson said not too long ago, but it could very well be that he’s under strict orders from Marvel not to reveal anything about his next appearance. Or maybe he just didn’t know at that point that the studio would bring him back for Avengers 4.
Either way, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Next up for the MCU is the release of Thor: Ragnarok on November 3rd, at which point Taika Waititi’s wacky threequel will bring the curtain down on Marvel’s 2017 offerings. For the second year on the trot, 2018 will then herald three big-name tentpoles in Black Panther, Infinity War, and Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, before Avengers 4 slams into theaters on May 3rd, 2019. And no, it’s not called Infinity Gauntlet.
