Cate Blanchett, who will soon be bound for Marvel’s Nine Realms in Thor: Ragnarok, is reportedly in contention for the all-female Ocean’s Eleven movie.
That’s according to The Playlist, revealing that the project – tentatively titled Ocean’s Ocho – has sprung into life after it was first announced late last year, and now the two-time Oscar winner is vying for a role alongside Sandra Bullock and, potentially, X-Men: Apocalypse star Jennifer Lawrence.
Details are few and far between at the time of writing, and sources closes to The Playlist caution that Blanchett is still negotiating for the plum gig. If that deal falls into place, however, the actress would assume a role similar to that of Brad Pitt in the original movies, setting the stage for some comic interplay and clandestine shenanigans with Sandra Bullock’s principal lead.
Passing on the torch for the rebooted Ocean’s Eleven is Steven Soderbergh. After helming all three installments of the crime caper trilogy, it’s understood the prolific director – who, somewhat unsurprisingly, is back behind the lens with NASCAR heist drama Logan Lucky – will step aside for Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit) to take point at the helm. The working title Ocean’s Ocho suggests that Ross, Bullock and Co. still have a handful of roles left to fill, too, so stay tuned for more.
Ocean’s Eleven joins an ever-growing list of do-overs simmering in the works, but if Cate Blanchett does indeed close a deal, we’re quietly confident production can kick on from there.
