Cate Blanchett Gets Intense In Character Poster From The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies

It's very easy to forget that there's a third Hobbit movie coming out; I'd even forgotten what happened in the last one and I've seen it twice. So in case you are like me and had completely missed the fact that yet another installment of Peter Jackson's bloated franchise will be hitting cinemas this December, the marketing departments over at New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers continue to roll out character posters for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the hopes that we'll get excited over the return of some of our heroes.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

It’s very easy to forget that there’s a third Hobbit movie coming out; I’d even forgotten what happened in the last one and I’ve seen it twice. So in case you are like me and had completely missed the fact that yet another installment of Peter Jackson’s bloated franchise will be hitting cinemas this December, the marketing departments over at New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers continue to roll out character posters for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the hopes that we’ll get excited over the return of some of our heroes.

Frankly, these posters are just reminding me of Lord of the Rings, which is no surprise. Almost all of our favorite characters from that film have made a return, regardless of whether they were in Tolkien’s original novel or not. Besides Legolas, the most glaring and incongruous of these returns belongs to Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel, the elven queen most adept at posing like Greek statuary. She’s featured in the latest, rather intense character poster from the film, in all her photoshopped glory.

What part Galadriel will play in the final installment of The Hobbit is anyone’s guess, really. We have long since departed from the original plot, with new characters and new plot threads, some of which Tolkien never even considered all those years ago. Will Galadriel be leading the elvish charge against Sauron’s forces? Or will she hang back and spout New Age platitudes, like she did in the Lord of the Rings films? It’s anyone’s guess, but as Jackson has decided to depart so far from the original book, he might as well send Galadriel into the thick of it. I wouldn’t mind seeing her get down and dirty for once.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes to cinemas on December 17. You can check out the latest character poster below.
