We recently found out that Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok had gained a new writer in Stephany Folsom, and now THR reports that the threequel may have also nabbed an Academy Award winning actress.
According to the site, Cate Blanchett is in final negotiations to join the cast, but whoever she may wind up playing is being kept under wraps for now. However, it is mentioned that sources reckon Marvel and director Taika Waititi have been on the hunt for a “badass female” for the movie, so there’s a decent chance she’ll be playing an Asgardian warrior of some sort. Or, she could be in talks to play superheroine Valykrie, who’s rumored to have a major role in the film.
Of course, there’s also the possibility that she’ll be a villain, which would definitely be exciting. We heard not too long ago that Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain were all competing for the role of a female villain, and it’s possible that this could be the part that Blanchett is in negotiations for.
Regardless of who she ends up playing, having an actress of her caliber on board is a huge win for the film and once again shows us how ambitious Marvel is in their casting and how eager A-list talent is to work with the studio, which is certainly no bad thing.
Thor Ragnarok hits theatres on November 3rd, 2017. Tell us, who do you think Cate Blanchett could be playing? Sound off below with your thoughts.
