Catwoman Writer Admits It Was A Terrible Movie With No Relevance

Considered to be one of the worst movies ever, Catwoman is perhaps the most deserving of the title "biggest comic book flop of all-time." With its horrific acting, inane characterizations and sexist viewpoints, the Pitof directed film all but ensures not to trust one name directors (we’re looking at you, too, McG).

The movie is widely seen as a career killer for Halle Berry, as well, and she herself even contends that she’s part of the Oscar curse. In any case, her casting in Catwoman certainly didn’t help the actress continue her impressive rise to fame, with Berry finding herself with fewer and fewer roles in critically acclaimed films in recent years.

Most of the cast and crew know just how much of a stinker this pic was, too, with writer John Rogers coming forward this week to admit that Catwoman was a “shit movie.” Taking to Twitter, the scribe admitted the following:

As one of the credited writers of CATWOMAN, I believe I have the authority to say: because it was a shit movie dumped by the studio at the end of a style cycle, and had zero cultural relevance either in front of or behind the camera.

In follow-up Tweets, Rogers revealed that a very troubled production also played into things. While he couldn’t go into full detail on what went on behind the scenes, he did say that though the film was originally going to be a Batman Returns spinoff starring Michelle Pfeiffer in the titular role, they ran into some rights issues which prevented them from using the character of Selina Kyle.

With that, both Tim Burton and Pfeiffer bailed and eventually, Halle Berry came on board and the rest is, as they say, history. As for Rogers, he reckons that only a few of the scenes from his original script ended up making it into the final draft, and even points out that Catwoman‘s villain, Laurel Hedare (played by Sharon Stone), was not his creation. And the cherry on top of this all? Rogers hasn’t even watched the full movie.

With a 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and much hatred from fans, it’s clear that Catwoman is one of the worst comic book films of all-time and this insight from one of its scribes on what went wrong only helps us to see even more clearly now why the movie turned out to be such a disaster.
