Celebrate Tolkien Week With These New Stills From The Hobbit

With less than three months to go before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released in theaters, anticipation is continuing to build. We recently got the great news that a new trailer for the film will finally be dropping on Wednesday in celebration of Tolkien Week (which contains the birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins), but with the continued surge of marketing, it turns out we don't even have to wait to get a small glimpse of what we could be seeing in the trailer.

With less than three months to go before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released in theaters, anticipation is continuing to build. We recently got the great news that a new trailer for the film will finally be dropping on Wednesday in celebration of Tolkien Week (which contains the birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins), but with the continued surge of marketing, we don’t have to wait for the trailer to get yet another small glimpse at the film.

Today, thanks to Screen Rant, we have six new images from the film that mostly show familiar faces of characters like Bilbo, Gandalf, and Gollum. However, we also get our first look at Radagast the Brown, a character that co-writer/producer Philippa Boyens describes as follows:

[Radagast is] not at all like Gandalf. There’s a power and danger and sharpness and wits and cunning even about Gandalf that you sense immediately, whereas Radagast is much quieter and gentler. You could mistakenly think he’s not even a wizard or that he might not have any powers of his own, and then you discover that he does.

I’ve already mentioned on numerous occasions that my anticipation for the start of the trilogy is quite high, and it’s quite possible that the new trailer will only serve to raise it even higher, making these last three months an incredibly long wait.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finally comes to theaters on December 14th, 2012, with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continuing the journey on December 13th, 2013, before concluding with The Hobbit: There and Back Again, which opens on July 18th, 2014.
