Has Marvel Found Its Daredevil In Charlie Cox?

Despite recent showrunner shifts for Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series, things appear to be moving full steam ahead, with filming expected to begin in July. Now that Steven S. DeKnight has been put in charge, his first big decision will be casting the titular Man Without Fear. While we don't have anything official on who might be playing the role, Latino Review thinks that Boardwalk Empire's Charlie Cox is the frontrunner. For now, I recommend taking this news with a grain of salt, as they admit that the report is unconfirmed. Although, they "trust the sources enough to publish," so take that as you will.

UPDATE: The Wrap is reporting that Charlie Cox has indeed been cast as Marvel’s Daredevil. They offer no further information at this time, but we’ll have more details for you as they become available to us.

Despite recent showrunner shifts for Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series, things appear to be moving full steam ahead, with filming expected to begin in July. Now that Steven S. DeKnight has been put in charge, his first big decision will be casting the titular Man Without Fear. While we don’t have anything official on who might be playing the role, Latino Review thinks that Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox is the frontrunner. For now, I recommend taking this news with a grain of salt, as they admit that the report is unconfirmed. Although, they “trust the sources enough to publish,” so take that as you will.

If this ends up being true, Cox is an interesting pick for Daredevil. He was thought to be the “next big thing” after his starring role in Matthew Vaughn’s Starlight, but has remained in obscurity ever since. However, he certainly has the acting chops for the role, and looks enough like Matt Murdock to please the hardcore fans. Additionally, he’s played a heroic leading man and a calculated, sinister gangster, which would give him the heroic edge needed for the role of Murdock, as well as the unhinged, kind of crazy psychology a person would need to dress up in red spandex and fight crime.

Daredevil begins shooting soon for release in 2015, so we should start hearing some concrete news any day now, especially with a new showrunner in place. Until we do though, let us know how you feel about Cox’s supposed casting in the comments section below!
