Charlize Theron May Get Her Own Fast And Furious Spinoff

With The Fast and The Furious franchise continuing to expand at an alarming rate, we're now learning that Charlize Theory may get her own spinoff.

Though the absence of a true Fast and Furious movie has unfortunately left a car-shaped hole in the summer blockbuster schedule, it looks as if the upcoming spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw will give moviegoers more than enough action and thrills to fill the gap.

In case you haven’t been keeping up, the pic features Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw as they team up alongside new players like Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez, Eddie Marsan, Stephanie Vogt and, of course, Idris Elba, who’s playing the big bad of the piece. It’s an enviable cast, but it seems that Universal has plans to expand the franchise beyond just the titular Hobbs and Shaw.

Yes, the studio’s keen to keep their foot on the gas when it comes to the Fast and Furious series and a new report from THR has revealed that they’re now looking into doing a spinoff based around Charlize Theron’s Cipher, from The Fate of the Furious.

At the moment, it’s unclear if this will be a separate project from the already announced female-led spinoff or if it’s the same one. All we know is that Theron is being eyed to return as the villain, which makes sense. After all, the actress is a strong box office draw and made a good impression with her first outing in the series.

There were also hints in The Fate of the Furious that there’s more to her story and fans have been hoping to see her again for a while now. Of course, just because THR says there’s interest in bringing Cipher back doesn’t mean it’ll definitely happen, but at this point, we see no reason why it wouldn’t.

Presumably, Universal are waiting to see how Hobbs & Shaw does before officially pressing ahead with any further Fast and Furious spinoffs, but if that’s a hit, then you can expect some announcements to be made later this summer.
