Charlize Theron Had To Turn Down A Role In Wonder Woman

While promoting the aforementioned film, the actress revealed that she was originally offered a part in DC’s phenomenally-successful Wonder Woman but had to turn it down, likely due to scheduling conflicts. The star, who was also recently seen as the villain of The Fate and the Furious, was on The Howard Stern Show and explained that director Patty Jenkins had reached out to her about a role in the film, but they weren’t able to make it work.

“No, I’m not in Wonder Woman. We’re friends. I think the world of her. We have a mutual respect for each other. She did come to me, and at the time I was either working on something or I don’t know. There was a reason I couldn’t do it.”

If it wasn’t for that elusive reason that kept her from the film, Wonder Woman would have reunited Theron with Jenkins for the first time since 2003’s Monster. The South-African actress, who was almost unrecognizable under a prosthetic face in the movie, won an Oscar for her performance there and as such, seeing her work with Jenkins again would have been a real treat.

Though Theron didn’t let on who she might have played in the film, it’s easy to speculate. Given her ability for portraying tough women, she would have been terrific as one of the Amazons of Themyscira. In fact, it’s likely that she was offered either Queen Hippolyta or General Antiope, who were eventually played by Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright, respectively.

It would have been awesome to see Theron in Wonder Woman, but it’s not like her absence hurt the film whatsoever. Still, maybe Jenkins can coax her old friend on board the DC train for the sequel? How about casting Theron as a villain like Cheetah or Circe? Now that’s something we’d love to see!
