Columbia Pictures has announced that Thor star Chris Hemsworth will headline their upcoming film Shadow Runner. The film will be a modern-day action thriller based on an original idea by Hossein Amini, who wrote the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman.
Plot details are rather scarce but Deadline reports that Hemsworth will star as the leader of an elite team of operatives who take on difficult missions. Amini reportedly drew inspiration for the film from a military incident that involved a 17-man Israeli assassination team who tracked and killed a man, suspected of murdering soldiers and stockpiling missiles, in a luxury hotel in Dubai. However, the film will not be a retelling of those events.
Hemsworth is quickly making headway in the movie business with several other films on the way including Red Dawn, The Cabin in the Woods, and Snow White and the Huntsman. This film sounds like it’ll try and replicate the success of the Mission Impossible franchise and I’m all for it. Hemsworth has already starred in two films which I love, Star Trek and Thor, and I can’t wait to see what he can do with a film like this!
