Making a movie based around one of the most iconic characters in film history has to be a daunting prospect, but that’s exactly what The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are planning to do.

We found out recently that the duo would be taking the helm of the second Star Wars Anthology movie, which will focus on the early exploits of everyone’s favourite space-rogue, Han Solo. And, in a recent interview with IGN, Miller spoke about the “huge pressure” of stepping into that universe and coming up with a fresh take of an origin story for the Corellian smuggler.

“It’s a huge pressure. We always try and find something that’s gonna make us… give a fire to our bellies and do a really good job. And this feels like there’s a lot of pressure to not screw this up. So we’ve definitely got that motivation and then the rest of it is about trying to give audiences a fresh experience that doesn’t feel like you’re just trying to check off some checklist of beats that you’re expecting and make something that feels new and exciting for people, but at the same time honoring what was so great about that character.”

It’s good that Miller knows what a mammoth task is ahead of him and his partner, and it also sounds like this movie is in the right hands. Here, he explains why he feels the love for Solo has endured all these years.

“I could talk to you for a day about why he is the perfect blend of rogue-ish cowboy… Morally ambiguous, but has a clear moral compass. He’s funny, he’s off the cuff… When I was a kid on the playground, fights were about who got to play Han Solo. He’s just one of the best characters ever created.”

Lawrence and Jon Kasdan will write the still untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie, which is set for a May 25, 2018 release but is still without an actor to play the scruffy looking Nerf-herder.
