Christian Bale has been cast in the lead role of David O. Russell’s next film, which centers on a notorious financial con artist. The two previously worked together when Russell led Bale to garner his very first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Fighter.
Bale joins his Fighter co-star and three time Academy Award nominated actress Amy Adams, Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook lead Bradley Cooper, and two-time Academy Award nominated superhero Jeremy Renner, in the currently untitled film.
With the awards season approaching quickly and Silver Linings Playbook turning heads as a contender, Russell is quickly becoming one of the film industry’s most watched and respected directors.
Shooting will begin early next year for Russell’s next film with the script being written by Eric Warren Singer, who previously wrote The International.
The synopsis for the currently untitled project is as follows:
The Untitled David O. Russell Project is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.
