After working together on Out of the Furnace, a film which didn’t do terribly well with critics but one that I happened to enjoy very much, Christian Bale and Scott Cooper are looking to reunite. This time around though, they’ll be making a very different kind of movie.

Titled Hostiles, the film will be set in 1892 and have Bale play an Army captain who “after stern resistance, begrudgingly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape and hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way.”

The project will act as Bale’s next project, after he dropped out of Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic due to health concerns over the weight gain that he’d have to undertake if he stayed on board.

No other actors are circling Hostiles just yet, but with Cooper, coming off the success of Black Mass, behind the lens and Bale lending his star power to the lead role, you can be sure that a stellar supporting cast will be assembled in no time.

We’ll let you know when we hear more, but for now, tell us, are you excited to see Bale reunite with Cooper for Hostiles?
