In news that isn’t all too surprising, Variety is reporting tonight that Paramount has hired Christopher McQuarrie to pen Mission: Impossible 6. Seeing as the director did a commendable job with the last instalment, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, it makes sense that they’d want to enlist him once again. There’s no confirmation yet on if he’ll get behind the camera as well, but talks are underway and it’s a definite possibility.
Production on this one is expected to kick off in August, so expect all the pieces to fall into place on the project very soon. We already know that Cruise will return to lead the film, and we’re hopeful that producers will bring breakout star Rebecca Ferguson back as well. However, given that her career has really taken off since Rogue Nation, it may be hard to lock her down. As for the other cast members, I’d imagine Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner will be back for another outing, but again, nothing’s been confirmed quite yet.
Despite the reviews on Rogue Nation not being as positive as those on Ghost Protocol, I’m more than happy to have McQuarrie back. The action sequences were expertly choreographed, the dark and gritty tone worked very well and the film as a whole was incredibly enjoyable. Having him return to pen the script can only help the franchise, and I’m intrigued to see where he’ll take Ethan Hunt next.
Tell us, are you happy to hear that McQuarrie is back to write, and possibly direct Mission: Impossible 6? Or did you have someone else in mind for the job? Sound off below and let us know.
