Director Josh Trank surprised both critics and audiences earlier this year with his debut film Chronicle. The found footage/superhero film pulled in a surprisingly large profit for FOX and apparently, the studio execs were impressed.

In fact, they were so impressed that they’ve decided to let Trank helm their Fantastic Four reboot. Collider is reporting that while Trank has been rumored for the film for a while now, it seems as if he will indeed be directing.

“Josh Trank, who did ‘Chronicle, I think this has been reported, is gonna come on and work on a take or a vision, that he has for [‘Fantastic Four’], so we’re excited about that… I think there’s a possibility of [him directing]. I mean he’s gonna develop it now, and then it depends on the script,” said 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman.

In addition to the Fantastic Four reboot, Trank is also attached to a Venom movie (Venom being the villain from the Spider-Man universe). Plus, he’s also expected to direct a sequel to Chronicle.

The in demand director definitely has his plate full right now so whether he’ll remain in the director’s seat for the Fantastic Four reboot or not is up in the air. But, as always, we’ll keep you posted.

Personally, I didn’t care much for Chronicle and I wasn’t that impressed by what Trank did with it. Then again, I don’t care much for the Fantastic Four reboot either so this news doesn’t really phase me either way.

What about you? Would you like to see Trank reboot the Fantastic Four?
