Though we’re less than a month away from release, those pesky rumors regarding The Dark Knight Rises are still popping up. The most prevalent one has to do with the Scarecrow, played by Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. We know that Murphy is open to reprising his role but as of yet, nothing has been confirmed as to whether he’ll show up in the film or not.
Recently, IFC sat down with the actor and asked him about it. Check out what he had to say below.
“My thing is always like, it’s out very shortly. Let’s not be impatient. People are so impatient. Some things [spoilers are] great for, but other things… isn’t it so great to go and see a film that you haven’t seen a script for, that you haven’t seen on set videos, that you haven’t read spoilers for, that you just go in and you just are in it? That’s what it should be. That’s what it was in the old days, and in many ways Chris is a very sort of old fashioned filmmaker in the methods that he employs and his belief in cinema, and I think that’s a good thing.
As you can see, he doesn’t confirm anything but he also doesn’t deny it either. I thought Murphy was great as Scarecrow in Batman Begins and though his story was more or less wrapped up in The Dark Knight, I wouldn’t mind seeing him return. That being said, with two villains already set to take on the Caped Crusader in The Dark Knight Rises, a third one might be overkill.
Remember though, the film will deal with The League Of Shadows which Scarecrow is associated with, so there may be a chance that he pops up in some capacity. Don’t expect to hear confirmation on this anytime soon though, if Scarecrow is in the film, the studio is keeping it a secret and we won’t know until the film is released.
The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th, 2012.
