Joel and Ethan Coen are currently having spectacular success with their re-adaptation of True Grit, it is their highest grossing movie so far and the film has earned 10 Academy Award nominations, the most for any single film of their career. So what could be their next move following that spectacular success? Well according to an interview with Ethan Coen over at Empire Magazine it could well be a horror movie.

A webchat was hosted with Ethan, where one Empire user asked if he ever considered doing a full on horror film to which he responded:

Funny you should ask, yes, we’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.

The last part of that statement is probably a joke but the first bit of his answer is definitely intriguing. After re-inventing the modern Western in spectacular style with True Grit and No Country for Old Men could we see the Coens do the same with a horror film? The closest we got to that in their other films is probably Barton Fink but I would love to see how the Coens attack a horror film. They are probably my favourite filmmakers working today, their movies are consistently great and to see them bring back the horror genre to its former glory would be wonderful.
