The film already has some impressive names attached including Michael Shannon, Ray Liotta, and Maggie Gyllenhaal and it tells the story of Richard “The Ice Man” Kuklinski” (Shannon), a hitman for the mafia who killed more than 200 people.

Gyllenhaal is reportedly playing Kuklinski’s wife while Schwimmer will be playing “Josh Rosenthal, a killer who works for mob boss Roy Demeo (Liotta) who he looks up to as a father figure and will do anything to impress.”

We recently learned that James Franco, who was announced as part of the project last year, was departing because of contract issues, but it’s unknown as to whether Schwimmer is replacing him or not.

This will represent a big change for Schwimmer, whom most remember as Ross on the hit show Friends. He hasn’t been doing very much acting since then, having most notably done voice-overs for the Madagascar series, but like Elijah Wood, he’s decided to try something outside of his normal comfort zone, the result of which could be quite interesting.

The film is being directed by Ariel Vroman from a screenplay adapted by Vroman and Morgan Land from Anthony Bruno’s novel.
