Today we have our first look at Colin Firth in the upcoming West Memphis Three drama Devil’s Knot, a dramatization of the events that led to three innocent teenage boys being charged with murder and sent to prison for 18 years.

In the film, Firth stars as private investigator Ron Lax, who offered his services for free to help the defendants with their trial. Though he wasn’t successful at first, his continued fight for justice helped to uncover new evidence which ultimately led to the boys being released from prison through an Alford plea deal.

Co-starring with Firth is a stellar list of talent that includes Reese Witherspoon, Amy Ryan, Dane DeHaan, Stephen Moyer and more. The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off next week. September 5th to be exact.

I had the chance to check out Devil’s Knot at a festival pre-screening a couple of days ago and while we’re waiting to post our review until next week, I can say that I was not impressed with director Atom Egoyan’s latest work. It hardly does the story justice and is overall, a rather pointless endeavour. If you really want to get a good look at this fascinating tale, check out the Peter Jackson-produced documentary West of Memphis instead.

Anyways, check out the first two stills of Firth above and below and make sure to keep an eye out next week for our review on Devil’s Knot.
