We may still be close to two years away from seeing 20th Century Fox’s blockbuster threequel roar into life, but that hasn’t prevented the studio from firing up the marketing machine for War for the Planet of the Apes ahead of time. On the heels of the official logo reveal at the tail-end of last week – confirming the subtle name change – the studio has launched a new competition for the feature that also heralds our first peek behind the scenes.

Returning at the helm following the critical and commercial praise lauded at Dawn is director Matt Reeves, who is joined by Andy Serkis in the above snippet to promote a novel contest that invites fans to become an extra in Fox’s simian adventure. Opening up the opportunity to don the full motion capture guise, you can find out much more information about said competition via the link below.

As for War for the Planet of the Apes‘ general set-up, Reeves has teased that the upcoming sequel will continue to explore the trajectory of Serkis’ Caesar, who has now cemented his status as the bona fide Messiah figure among the empowered ape community. Danger is afoot, though; with Woody Harrelson toplining a new human threat as the malevolent Colonel, Fox’s new installment in the reinvigorated franchise is aiming for another bout of man vs. nature.

Truth be told, there’s not an awful lot we know beyond the core premise, though the studio’s Apes series has displayed a remarkable amount of depth and character throughout its two-film revival, and we have every faith that that trend will continue in 2017.

Returning alongside Serkis is actress Judy Greer, while the remainder of the film’s cast list will be rounded out by Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Gabriel Chavarria, Amiah Miller and Terry Notary. War for the Planet of the Apes, the third installment in 20th Century Fox’s rebooted franchise, is due to roar to life on July 14, 2017.
