Keanu Reeves refuses to give up on his hopes of finally making that Constantine sequel, even though it suffered a major setback not long after finally escaping from development hell to get an official green light.

Fans had spent a decade and a half clamoring for the beloved actor to return as the occult investigator, and they finally got their wish when it was revealed the wheels had finally started turning in an official capacity. However, Warner Bros. merging with Discovery and then appointing James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios instantly cast doubt on the project, and we’re no clearer to finding out whether or not it survived the cull.

The actor has spoken with Gunn about Constantine 2, but that’s all he’s really willing to divulge at this point, while co-star Rachel Weisz sounded a lot less confident when she was pressed on her awareness and potential involvement during an interview with ComicBook.

“No, nobody’s mentioned anything to me. Those twins in Constantine, they never appeared on the screen at the same time. One had committed suicide before the story began, so you just had her sister, I think, having dreams, perhaps, about her dead sister. But no, I haven’t heard anything about it.”

Just because she doesn’t know a thing, doesn’t mean that movement has been ground to standstill, although you get the impression the only way Constantine 2 might even be considered for the DCU’s upcoming slate of projects is as an Elseworlds adventure, despite the benefits that folding Reeves into a shared comic book universe would bring.
