Fifty Shades Star Dakota Johnson Wants To Play Catwoman

While this writer will be the first admit how he'll be attending a showing of Birds of Prey on opening weekend, I'm kind of bummed by Catwoman's absence. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of how she doesn't necessarily have to be involved in a film uniting that specific team of female superheroes - but then again, neither does Harley Quinn.

Still, there’s hope for a new silver screen interpretation of Selina Kyle showing up in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but it may be some time before we get confirmation on which other characters will be appearing alongside the Dark Knight. I don’t know about you, but if she is included, I wish to see her sporting the costume established by comic books published over the course of the past fifteen years or so, in addition to being made popular by video games such as Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight.

Of course, someone will first have to be cast, and if Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) has anything to say about it, she’ll be the one hired to play the feline fatale. In fact, she said just as much in a recent segment shot for Vanity Fair, which can be viewed below.

Oddly enough, she’s hooked up to a lie detector test in the video, so I’m pretty sure nothing she says is admissible in court. Regardless, she did respond with “Catwoman” when asked which Marvel character she’d like to play, before being reminded that Selina hails from the DC Universe.

Semantics aside, Johnson does look like a decent fit for Ms. Kyle, so perhaps she should be taken into consideration should the hunt for a new Catwoman begin in the very near future. If not, I’d say Selina is due for a movie of her own, righting the wrongs of the 2004 abomination, though I’m not sure the studio is willing to take another chance in that regard.
