Sony and Dan Gilroy’s untitled law drama has added Hugo Armstrong opposite Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell, according to a new report from Deadline.
The picture formerly known as Inner City will be written and directed by Dan Gilroy, who recently had a hand in the screenplay for Legendary reboot Kong: Skull Island. Indeed, Gilroy’s other screenwriting credits include The Bourne Legacy and the haunting Jake Gyllenhaal drama Nightcrawler, which nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay two years ago. It certainly makes for an eclectic mix of projects, and that has us all the more intrigued by
Inner City Gilroy’s as-yet-untitled drama.
A brief synopsis relayed by Deadline confirms that the director’s latest creative venture centers on a “Los Angeles attorney by the name of Roman Israel (Denzel Washington) is offered a job at a prestigious law firm after the death of his longtime partner and takes on a case that has life-altering repercussions. Armstrong will play a retired LAPD detective turned private investigator, who helps Washington’s character on the case.” Further details on Colin Farrell’s character were not disclosed at this time.
With an ensemble cast beginning to come together, it shouldn’t be too long before Tony Gilroy ushers this project in front of the cameras, by which point we’ll surely know the title Gilroy has settled on. Hugo Armstrong, on the other hand, is coming off SXSW hit Lucky, which stands as John Carroll Lynch’s feature film debut. Also in the pipeline for the actor is a role in HBO series Room 104. Keep an eye out for that one to premiere before the year’s end.
