Daniel Craig Walks Back James Bond Comments: “I Would Miss It Terribly”

Chalk it up to British humor being lost in translation or the sheer physical and mental demand of headlining an action blockbuster in the vein of Spectre, but it seems Daniel Craig hasn't completely ruled himself out of reprising his role as James Bond sometime in the future, despite some impassioned comments to the contrary (read: "I'd rather slash my wrists.")

Chalk it up to British humor being lost in translation or the sheer physical and mental demand of headlining an action blockbuster in the vein of Spectre, but it seems Daniel Craig hasn’t completely ruled himself out of reprising his role as James Bond sometime in the future, despite some impassioned comments to the contrary (read: “I’d rather slash my wrists.”)

News emerges from New York Comic Con, where Craig partook in a Bond panel (via Birth.Movies.Death). It didn’t take long before the actor was quizzed by the audience regarding 007, to which he replied, “I’ve got the best job in the world doing Bond.” That’s a fairly stark contrast from Daniel Craig’s previous statements, but the upbeat sentiments didn’t end there, with the Brit even going so far as to say that if he were to pull the plug, he would “miss it terribly.”

“I’ve got the best job in the world doing Bond. The things I get to do on a Bond movie and the type of work it is, there’s no other job like it. If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly. I love this job. I get a massive kick out of it. And if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will.”

Amid reports that Eon Productions was willing to pony up $150 million to lock down Daniel Craig for Bond 25 and beyond – reports that later turned out to be bogus – James Bond franchise chiefs Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson cut through the speculation to reaffirm that the actor, who has played the illustrious secret agent a total of four times to date, absolutely remains “first choice” to carry the franchise forward, with or without Sam Mendes.

James Bond looks to be effectively on ice at Eon Productions for the time being. Daniel Craig, meanwhile, has lined up roles across Logan Lucky and Purity, the new TV series set to premiere in 2017.
