Following our report that Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s next film would be Noah, a dark take on the tale of Noah’s Ark, we now have more news straight from the man himself. IFC caught up with Aronofsky at the 2011 Provincetown International Film Festival where he dropped a few hints about his latest project.

“I want to make a big event film and I think it can be that”, said Aronofsky. “I don’t think it’s a very religious story,” he added. “I think it’s a great fable that’s part of so many different religions and spiritual practices. I just think it’s a great story that’s never been on film.”

No news was given regarding rumors that Aronofsky is looking at casting actor Christian Bale in the lead, but when asked about it Aronofsky simply grinned and simply told the reporter that he had no comment.

I was pretty skeptical when I heard that Noah would be Aronofsky’s latest project. However, I didn’t think that I’d enjoy a psychological thriller set in the world of ballet either, so I’m keeping an open mind. The fact that he’s envisioning it more as an epic tale than a religious one gives me comfort. I’m also hoping that the Christian Bale rumor is true because, well, he’s Christian Bale! Hands down, one of the best actors currently working in Hollywood.

What do you think about Aronofsky’s comments? Does the Bale rumor have any truth to it?
