Dave Bautista Says Marvel Has No Interest In Doing A Drax Movie

Everyone loves Dave Bautista's Drax, after the hero won over audiences with his over-literal sensibility and thirst for bloody vengeance. It's no surprise then that the actor has long been campaigning for his character to get a spinoff movie of some sort.

In fact, last year, Bautista explained that he’d like to explore more about Drax’s family, telling MTV the following:

“You know I really wish they would tell more of the story of Drax’s family. I think it’s a beautiful story and I think it’s been lost and overlooked a little bit. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from and I think…I really wish they would touch upon that more and I think the fans would like to see that more.”

While that’s certainly something we’d be interested in seeing – and we imagine most fans would be into it, too – it doesn’t sound like it’ll ever happen, as Bautista has now revealed that Marvel has no intentions of making a Drax movie. Taking to Twitter, the actor shared the following:

As you can see, according to Bautista, Marvel clearly isn’t interested in his ideas for a Drax standalone and while things can always change, we imagine that the chances of this ever happening are slim to none. After all, the actor’s been in the MCU for several years already and given that he’s now 50, it’s not like he has that much longer to be portraying a big, bulking superhero like Drax the Destroyer.

Not to mention that Bautista’s made it pretty clear that he wants to earn some awards recognition at some point in his career, and it’s not likely he’ll be able to do that by continuing to work with Marvel Studios since the Academy doesn’t exactly favor comic book movies.

All of this is to say that we shouldn’t hold our breath for a Drax movie to happen. But still, it’s good to know that the wrestle-turned-actor is at least pushing for one should Marvel ever change their mind.
