Being from Toronto only amplified the failures of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. When the DCEU movie entered production in my city, I was currently enrolled in film school and witnessed the Joker’s Lamborghini pierce the downtown core, in addition to seeing a Gotham City PD cruiser or two. As a result, I took pride in the picture …oh, how wrong I was.

While I take no issue with jumping to defend Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie I feel is grossly misunderstood, even I cannot deny the critical shortcomings lobbied against Suicide Squad, which currently holds a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch!

Nevertheless, the supervillain supergroup did manage to turn a tasty profit, earning $746 million worldwide on a budget of $175 million, so it wasn’t all bad. What’s more, an eagle-eyed fan discovered a new Easter egg hidden in the David Ayer-directed movie yesterday. The object in question is Joker’s therapy bear, which makes multiple appearances throughout his comic book history.

The discovery certainly alleviates some of the disappointment, especially when considering Ayer himself corroborated the find, which might not seem like much, but at the very least, signifies that the filmmaker did his homework.

I don’t know about you, but I, for one, didn’t catch the Joker’s therapy bear easter egg during my first viewing of Suicide Squad. And though it’s not likely to change anyone’s opinion of the movie, it is a nice nod to the character’s comic book roots and with any luck, we’ll get a few more like it in the upcoming sequel.

Speaking of which, we understand that Suicide Squad 2 was supposed to head in front of cameras this October. However, it’s now been pushed back to make way for Birds of Prey. When production will get underway is currently unknown, but as soon as we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
