Earlier this week, THR reported that David Harbour of Stranger Things fame had joined the cast of the upcoming Black Widow movie. And while actor himself has yet to explicitly confirm the news, he certainly seems to have quite a few thoughts on next year’s release.

The subject came up in an interview with Entertainment Tonight while the star was attending CinemaCon. As it stands, Marvel Studios still hasn’t officially announced any movies beyond 2019, so it was probably to be expected that Harbour is staying cagey on the matter. Nonetheless, the Hellboy lead is excited to see what director Cate Shortland comes out with.

“Yeah man, like I want to do the movie,” Harbour said. “[Marvel would] kick me out so fast…[if I reveal anything]. Look here’s what I will say. It’s being directed by this woman Cate Shortland who is a phenomenal director. She directed a movie called Lore. She’s a phenomenal director, so what’s really exciting to me about it is it’s gonna be like a real deep, interesting film. And so yeah, I’m just excited for it as a film as well as a superhero movie.”

Though Harbour isn’t directly admitting to anything, it’s clear that the reports of his involvement are much more than empty hearsay.

With the new Hellboy on the horizon, we can therefore expect to see Harbour in two comic book movies in the space of less than two years, and as the 43-year-old actor went on to observe, working as an action star can be a physically demanding job.

“It feels like a lot of pressure to get to the gym,” Harbour explained. “I don’t love working out, I have to tell you it’s like not my favorite thing. I really enjoy sitting on a couch. But now that you become ‘action star of the year’, it probably means you have to work out year-round not just when you’re doing a movie.”

Harbour later added that Scarlett Johansson will be “in far better shape” than him on the set of Black Widow – not that he can confirm he’s in the film, of course.

Johansson and Harbour aside, Natasha Romanoff’s solo debut will reportedly feature turns from Fighting with My Family star Florence Pugh, as well as Rachel Weisz of The Favourite and The Constant Gardener fame. As it stands, Black Widow is expected to begin filming this June, but in the meantime, you can catch Harbour in a very different comic book franchise when Hellboy hits theaters on April 12th.
