Releasing: April 5th, 2019
Runtime: TBA
Directed by: David F. Sandberg
Writers: Henry Gayden
Starring: TBA
Possible characters introduced: Billy Batson, the Wizard Shazam, Doctor Sivana
Rumours: The character of Black Adam will not appear.

Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C Beck, and made his first appearance in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940. Shazam is the alter-ego of teenager Billy Batson, upon whom a dying wizard bestows magical powers. In the New 52 re-launch, Billy Batson is a homeless teen chosen by the Wizard Shazam to become his successor. Having received his powers, when Billy says the word ‘Shazam,’ he transforms into an adult, costumed superhero.

Over the years, Batson has become closely associated with the anti-hero Black Adam, and is indeed one of his main adversaries. However, though Dwayne Johnson has long been cast as the Black Adam of the DCEU, Johnson himself has been heard to state that Black Adam will not appear in the film. In this case, it’s perhaps possible that the movie will see the adaptation of Shazam’s first battle, with Doctor Sivana.
