The DCU is doing everything in its power to ensure that the massively expensive The Flash ends up being the franchise saver it was always touted to be. From hushing up the whole Ezra Miller fiasco, finding the right director after multiple changes that also included script rewrites, to reshooting parts of the film. But the truth is that the real MVP of its efforts to ensure the film’s success has been hiding in plain sight all along. Not anymore though as the recent The Flash trailer has inadvertently spilled the beans.
The latest trailer for the film shares a few more glimpses of its characters and the multiversal shenanigans they will be indulging in. It is once again underlined how Miller’s Barry Allen will be “breaking” the timeline by trying to go back in time to save his parents. As we know, his plan backfires, pushing him to instead protect the planet from the horrors he ends up unleashing. Thankfully, he is not alone in his crusade as Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, an alternate Barry, and Michael Keaton — as well as Ben Affleck’s respective Batman — are there to aid him in his crusade.
But while Miller is supposed to own the spotlight in the film, many couldn’t help but point out how all the sneak peeks at the film so far have been focusing a lot more on Keaton’s Batman. And if a significant portion of the DCU fandom is to be believed, the reason isn’t to usher in the multiverse with a bang.
Some are even sure that Batgirl didn’t get canceled because it was ‘not releasable’ – it was to ensure that the hype Keaton’s involvement generated for the film could instead be used to save The Flash.
Though, if this is indeed what the DCU is gunning for, it hasn’t worked on everyone.
But many are ready to forget that Miller has yet to face the consequences of their actions.
This back-and-forth speculation about The Flash’s fate will go on, but whether Warner Bros. succeeded in saving the film that was demanded to be reshot or canceled just a few months ago will only be confirmed once it hits theaters this June 16.
