Wade Wilson’s new nemesis will be played by Jack Kesy, best known for his role as vampire The Master in horror TV series The Strain and for a supporting part in the new Baywatch movie. Though they aren’t 100% sure, the site reports that it’s likely that the star will be playing Black Tom Cassidy.

If this is correct, Black Tom would be an interesting choice for the movie’s villain. In the comics, he’s traditionally presented as a recurring enemy of the X-Men. In particular, he’s the nemesis of Banshee (his cousin). In recent years, however, the villain has branched out to become an occasional foe of the Merc with the Mouth’s, as well. On the page, Black Tom has a versatile power which allows him to manipulate, bond with and project energy through plant life. For a time, this ability evolved to the point where Tom turned into a full-on plant creature.

Again, there’s no confirmation if this is indeed who Kesy is playing, but if it is, it’s definitely exciting, as the villain would make for a formidable foe for Deadpool to square off against and could also pave the way for some other mutants to make an appearance here, too.

The Merc With a Mouth will be dragged kicking and screaming back into theaters when Deadpool 2 opens on June 1st, 2018. As things stand, it’ll be bookended by New Mutants (April 13th) and the long-brewing X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2nd).
