Watching Deadpool 2 Brought A Tear To Rob Liefeld’s Eye

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has taken to Twitter (and Instagram!) to reveal that the imminent sequel brought a tear to his eye.

For series creator and all-around comic book legend Rob Liefeld, watching Deadpool 2 must feel similar to sending the kids off to college.

There’s the overwhelming sense of pride, for one, though it’s often coupled with that bittersweet twang. And based on Liefeld’s latest social media posts, that’s pretty damn similar to the rush of emotions he felt after watching Deadpool 2 for the very first time.

Over on Twitter, for example, the comic book scribe admitted that the sequel’s finale brought a tear to his eye – and that’s not to say that Deadpool 2 is an overly emotional film, merely that Rob Liefield was so proud to realize that David Leitch and his team managed to stick the landing.

I cried at the end of Deadpool 2. Part was the nostalgia of the particular track blasting but mostly the emotion that they had landed the plane in such spectacular fashion. The plane is the movie in this analogy; there is no important plane-landing sequence in the movie. I wiped those tears away as fast as I could before the lights came up because I couldn’t have everyone going: “Why is Liefeld crying over Deadpool 2?”

Movie is a blast. Dream come true. Spectacular hurdle cleared. Get ready for Cable, Domino and the rest!

And as if that wasn’t enough, Liefeld also posted a heartfelt status on Instagram (h/t EW), revealing his pride that characters like Cable and Domino – Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, respectively – are now being accepted by the masses alongside the Merc With a Mouth:

If, for whatever reason, my relationship with Marvel ended tomorrow, I am so appreciative that they gave me my own sandbox to create dynamic new characters. The fans were always there for me and these fun characters!

Expect Deadpool 2 to make its big splash on May 18th, and if you’re curious, we’ve already caught wind of the post-credits scenes – not to mention the one that was deemed too crude even for Deadpool. Yikes.
