Thanks to a batch of interviews with Deadpool 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, we’ve been learning quite a bit about 20th Century Fox’s highly anticipated sequel over the last few days. Last night, we found out that both Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead would return, and now the duo have revealed that another fan-favourite character will also be back: Dopinder, the hapless taxi driver that chauffeurs the Merc with a Mouth around in the first film.

During a Facebook Live Q&A with Nerdist, Wernick confirmed that we will indeed be seeing actor Karan Son reprise the role for Wade Wilson’s next big screen adventure:

I would say that the relationship between Dopinder and Deadpool was the most fun for me. I love that relationship and I love that character. And he’ll be in the sequel.

This is great news, as Dopinder’s scenes with Deadpool in the highly acclaimed first movie were definite highlights – particularly their hilarious exchange when the latter finds out his cabbie pal has kidnapped his cousin and romantic rival Bandhu, and has him tied up in the trunk. That little excursion didn’t seem to end particularly well for Dopinder, so it’ll be interesting to see how he’s reintroduced for the sequel. Whatever happens, he’ll almost certainly find himself being stiffed for his services once again by Ryan Reynolds’ stingy antihero.

Deadpool 2 doesn’t have a release date just yet, but we hear cameras are set to begin rolling at some point this year, so be sure to stay tuned for more.
