Deadpool 2 Writers Are More Than Willing To Pen An Avengers Movie

With Avengers 4 (May 3rd, 2019), co-written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, set to be the last instalment in phase three, and the future of the MCU, beyond the third stage, undetermined, well, at least publicly. It would seem that Wernick and Reese are a tad late to the party.

Deadpool 2 has barely been in theaters but already, screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are eager to get back into the comic book racket. Having effectively subverted the superhero genre to the tune of $783 million worldwide, with the help of Ryan Reynolds, of course, the writing duo behind Deadpool revealed yesterday that they’re more than willing to swap Marvel Entertainment for Marvel Studios.

During an AMA on Reddit, one fan asked Reese and Wernick if they’d be open to penning an Avengers film. Their response? “Yes, please.” With Avengers 4 (May 3rd, 2019), co-written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, set to be the last installment in Phase Three, and the future of the MCU beyond that unclear, it would seem that Wernick and Reese are a tad late to the party.

Fortunately, in the foreseeable future, the longtime collaborators have a jam-packed slate to keep them occupied. For one, Reese and Wernick are currently attached to write Clue for 20th Century Fox, a movie based on the classic board game that, coincidentally, Ryan Reynolds will produce and star in.

Additionally, the Zombieland duo are amidst getting an original concept off the ground, Underground 6, which will see Michael Bay direct under his banner Platinum Dunes. Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but we’re certainly intrigued to learn more.

And speaking of Zombieland, talk of a sequel has been heating up lately. In fact, Wernick disclosed that hopefully “we’re shooting that thing in early 2019 for an October of ’19 release,” and even went so far as to mention that the original cast will be returning.

As always, we’ll be sure to keep you posted as things unfold, but for now, tell us, would you like to see the Deadpool 2 duo pen an Avengers – or indeed, an MCU – film? Let us know by commenting below.
