As of December 14th, 2017, the X-Men, along with Fantastic Four and a certain Merc With a Mouth, are headed back home to Marvel Studios.

Exactly when we can expect the MCU to swing its doors open to Wolverine et. al is another question entirely (and one that Marvel boss Kevin Feige isn’t prepared to answer…yet), but rest assured, the world of comic book movies we know and cherish is about to be flipped on its head in the best possible way.

Until that happens, though, 20th Century Fox is continuing to push forward with its X-Universe – as it’s called – and tonight, Deadline has some interesting news for us. The outlet’s reporting that the studio’s just hired iconic comic book scribe Brian Michael Bendis to pen a script for a project called 143, which will be helmed by Deadpool director Tim Miller.

Details on what exactly this mystery movie is are being kept tightly under wraps, but Deadline can confirm that it’ll be set in the already existing X-Men cinematic universe. Whether that means it’ll be a sequel to Dark Phoenix, another spinoff like New Mutants or something else entirely, we don’t know, but color us intrigued.

Even with so little information available, there’s still much to be excited about here. For one, Miller absolutely knocked it out of the park on Deadpool and though he didn’t return for the sequel, fans will no doubt be thrilled to hear he’s taking another stab at the genre. As for Bendis, he’s one of the industry’s most prolific and beloved writers, so we can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Given that Miller’s currently in pre-production on a new Terminator movie, it’ll be some time yet before we learn more about this mysterious X-Men project. But rest assured, it is in development and it’ll no doubt be something pretty special.
