Tim Miller Weighs In On Deadpool Breaking The Fourth Wall

There's a lot to be excited about in Deadpool, but by far one of the most intriguing parts of the movie is the fact that the titular character will be breaking the fourth wall. Like Frank Underwood in House of Cards, that's a storytelling device which has a ton of potential, and in the case of the Merc with the Mouth, it's become a huge part of his comic book adventures over the years.

There’s a lot to be excited about in Deadpool, but by far one of the most intriguing parts of the movie is the fact that the titular character will be breaking the fourth wall. Like Frank Underwood in House of Cards, that’s a storytelling device which has a ton of potential, and in the case of the Merc with the Mouth, it’s become a huge part of his comic book adventures over the years.

However, what works on the page doesn’t always work on the screen, but Deadpool director Tim Miller has now shed some light on how they plan to handle that part of the film.

“Deadpool breaks the fourth wall. Wade Wilson never does. Does he know he’s a comic book character in a comic book movie? Does he know that Ryan Reynolds is playing him, and that Ryan Reynolds also played Green Lantern? It’s a big rabbit hole, and we explore it pretty deep.”

We already know that Deadpool is going to feature some sure to be very funny digs at Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but seeing some of the questions above addressed by the movie will be tremendous fun and is something which is sure to have a very big impact on how the story plays out.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand, Deadpool is set to be released on February 12th, 2016.
