When it comes to what’ll happen to the X-Men franchise now that it’s been swallowed up by Marvel Studios, everything’s up in the air. There seems to be only one thing we can be certain of: Disney knows not to mess with Deadpool and is going to bring Ryan Reynolds back as the Merc with a Mouth.
There’s been a lot of speculation about exactly how Marvel will use the character within in the MCU, though. Early rumors said he’d be teaming up with Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, while other reports pointed to him having more of a limited role and kept to the outskirts of the franchise. But would the studio really not want to make the most of their biggest new asset? Wouldn’t it make sense for Deadpool to have a huge role in the MCU going forward?
According to our sources, this is exactly what Marvel’s got planned. We Got This Covered has been informed that Wade Wilson will co-star and cameo in a range of MCU movies in the coming years. This will be in addition to leading his own sub-franchise. It doesn’t sound like there are concrete plans for which crossovers could happen right now, but we’ve been told that the intention is to fully integrate Deadpool into the Marvel universe.
This follows on from our recent report that the MCU Deadpool will be classified as a different character from the Fox iteration. Though DP will still break the fourth wall and be aware that he’s switched universes, the expectation is that he’ll be a slightly different version and not the one from the earlier films. Perhaps in a similar way to how the X-Men Origins: Wolverine one isn’t the same, even though he’s still played by Reynolds.
Tell us, though, how do you want Deadpool to be folded into the MCU? Have your say in the comments section down below.
