Deadpool is exceeding expectations at the North American box office, and after scoring a record haul of $12.7 million during Thursday night previews, it looks set to have a huge weekend.

The movie already holds the record for having the highest debut for an R-Rated film, and with analysts predicting a Friday of more than $35 million, it’s now thought that Deadpool will make over $90 million during the Valentine’s Day weekend. That’s well ahead of new releases like Zoolander 2 and How to Be Single.

In fact, with word of mouth so positive, there are those who believe it could reach $100 million. That may not be a massive amount for a franchise like The Avengers, but for an R-Rated superhero movie featuring a character as obscure as this doing these sorts of numbers is nothing short of incredible.

It’s not just domestically that Deadpool is doing well, either. Overseas, it looks set to earn more than $80 million, giving it a worldwide cume of at least $170 million by Monday. Not bad for a film which cost only $58 million to make, eh?

Regardless, it’s going to be very interesting to see how things pan out for Deadpool over the next few weeks. There’s already talk of a sequel, and Fox will likely make that 100% official soon.
