Disney CEO Weighs In On Deadpool Joining The Avengers

Buried within The Hollywood Reporter's interview with Bob Iger was a teasing comment about Deadpool joining forces with The Avengers.

Wade Wilson is many things to many people – Deadpool, the Merc With a Mouth… you name it. But could he one day become the new recruit for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

That very question was presented to Disney chief Bob Iger during his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, one in which he covered all manner of topic, including the company’s buzzworthy streaming service, James Gunn, and why the initial output of one Star Wars movie per year may have been a step too far. And so begins a “slowdown” that will likely take into effect after the launch of Episode IX next Christmas.

As for Deadpool’s chances of rubbing shoulders with the Avengers, it seems the fate of Wade Wilson currently rests in the hands of MCU über-producer Kevin Feige, with Iger revealing that:

Kevin [Feige]’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them. But who knows?

In short, don’t get your hopes up – at least, not yet – as there is still much work to be done before the Disney-Fox merger is fully consummated and approved by all necessary parties.

Of course, Deadpool isn’t the only Marvel character who’s returning home, as the acquisition will herald the addition of both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to Marvel’s ranks. And again, it seems Feige will be in charge of the entire process, though Bob Iger stopped short of mentioning any specifics.

I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.

So many questions, so few answers. Whatever the case, comic book fans can go on enjoying the MCU and all it has to offer, safe in the knowledge that both Bob Iger and Kevin Feige are hard at work bringing Deadpool and his fellow mutants under the Disney umbrella.
